Thrust, Thrust, Thrust

I did Jam after Combat yesterday. (Body Jam is the dancey group fitness one from Les Mills).

I've been doing Combat since... June, or thereabouts? Doing it 2-4 times a week, sometimes more, less if I'm sick. So I'm pretty good at it. Not the best, obvs, but I follow the choreography without error and my punches/kicks are angry and where I want them.

I did Jam (and funk) fourish times a few months ago, non-consecutively. And before Christmas I tried to get back into it, but the speaker stopped working half way through (true!)

So for all intents and purposes this was my 'first' class. I suck SO hard. When talking to Josie, I likened myself to a laundry basket filled with sand, lurching about. Being the roundest person in the class, I was hoping to pass myself off as a Mistress of Buxom Funk... think misc. black Diva. Like Martha Wash, or that chick who intones 'boo-geeeeay' on Prince's song 'Cream'.

I have a long, long way to go before that happens.

So yes. It's fun, but ridiculous. B-Boys, hip hop and salsa are not things I usually find in my world, so I lol at that and feel silly doing it. The music is awful, but you expect that with group fitness. Though a gorgeous combat friend also does it, so it nice to steal glances mid hip shimmy. I'm a bad man.

Keep on Jammin, Desci! :-D There's an instructor I talk to on the LM forums who is taking some classes in Melbourne, I'll get him to keep an eye out for ya ;-)

Looking like a spaz is precisely the reason why I can't bring myself to go to any group classes.

Actually that's a lie, I did go to one spin class and almost had a coronary on top of the bike.

I LOLed at the "boo-geeeeay" reference. I think the chick you're thinking of is Rosie Gaines.

I don't go to a gym that offers Les Mills stuff, but I think Jam would be more my style than Combat. But then, I have been known to pole dance for fitness, and I'm investigating a burlesque class on offer in my neighbourhood. Not that I have a natural rhythm, in fact, I'm sure I look like the biggest retard going, but it sure is a FUN way to look retarded. ^_^

So tell me, Des, have you discovered a love for lifting iron yet, and how has the weight loss / fitness been going? Still full steam ahead or do you need a kick in the pants, so to speak?

Up to disk 4 season three!!! Loving it... Although Joey is a bitch and Dawson is ugly (I once thought he was cute) and Pacey has suddenly gotten hot. This could be due to him being in Fringe (and various movies, including Cruel Intentions) though.... I love sitting on the couch watching several episodes at once. I am also on the lookout for the Felicity series.. yet to find...
The nannying job were stuffing me around and wanted to push my three day trial until this week.. thus still not giving me any real job incentive.... So thus last minute ditch job application gave me a job on the second last day of term... Job security for yet another year.. Plus teaching is really in my blood now. To give it up as much as I hate it would be dumb....

hehe, I loved combat a few years ago when I attended gym. There arn't any gyms that offer those sorts of classes here though. Pity, I once made an instructor break professionalism and laugh at me during one of those dance classes.

Marshy: Oooh, who?

1.0: Hee! My first RMP class I took such baby steps that I don't even think I did it right. Though I was sweating like a farmer.

Josie: Even when I get super good, I shall remember how crapful I am now. So I PROMISE I won't laugh!

Melanie: Seriously, go up the back, in the middle, and none of the participants will notice you. And the instructors have always seen worse. As long as you throw yourself into it they really appreciate it! Just let them know it's your first time. I promise it won't be as embarrassing as you think!

Mel: Yes! Her! Thank you.

NOI: Oooh, burlesque dancing. I'm far too unsexy for that yet.

I really have to be more dedicated with weights. I've been doing upper body because my knees are dodgy.

But it's all been going quite well, I think. I just need to keep at what I'm doing, and add more gradually, really. Tis good to know I have some virtual arse kickers to keep me in check ^_^

Josie: Oooh! Must get, if the funds in my budget will allow (this is a big month, grr)

And that sucks, about the nannying job. But if you had misgivings then it sounds like you did the right thing!

Naridu: Sounds like you're going well with the running, though! And I'm sure the instructor wasn't laughing *at* you, really? No!

In honor of this post I went to something worrying referred to as "Abs Blitz" last night.

Yeah not too much of a cockup, but it's easy to get away with it when you're on the ground.
